The 29th Edition of the prestigious Colonel Frank Von Goldstein Memorial Debate was held at Yadavindra Public School, Patiala. The Bhavan Chandigarh school team, comprising Anhad Kaur, Anjali Bhardwaj and Harshita Jain from class XII bagged the first place in an exciting finish. A modified parliamentary debate, the Von Goldstein Debate is one of the most prestigious competitions in the debating circles in India. The final debate was preceded by 3 knock off rounds, which saw participants debate eloquently on pertinent topics. Four teams had qualified for the finals and hardliners debate after defeating 11other teams in the preliminary and quarter final rounds held earlier.
The final debate was on the topic ‘Women interest stand subjugated in a male dominated society’ and the fiery debaters put forth well-researched, relevant arguments for the proposition, beating the host team, YPS Patiala, who spoke against the topic. The esteemed panel of Judges included the revered board member of YPS, Ramneetinder Kaur, Kumkum Bajaj, Retired HOD and Dean of language department of Punjabi University and a Soft Skill trainer at INFOSYS, Dr. Hartej Tiwana, HOD and Associate Professor for English in GCG, Patiala.
Anhad Kaur, class XII was applauded for her tenacious rebuttals and fiery arguments and was awarded the Best Debater along with a cash prize of Rs.5000. The Senior Principal Ms. Vineeta Arora applauded the efforts of the team in the morning assembly and encouraged students to be passionate and persevere in the tasks they undertake.
